Have you ever asked yourself how much theanine content your favourite
tea has? The answer strongly depends on the plucking of the tea leaves.
The young sprouts (two leaves and a bud) contain much more theanine /
caffeine than the lower growing leaves. Hence, the large-leaved Bancha
tea is drunk as an every day tea in Japan. The large leaves which are
plucked from the bottom of the tea tree contain only a fraction of the
caffeine compared to the young sprouts.
