Cystus - Tea Herb
Cystus, also called grey-haired cistrose, grows wild on untouched
magnesium-rich soil in Southern Europe. It is found especially in the
typical Macchia region on the Northern Greek peninsula of Chalkidiki.
In the densely grown brushwood this shrub stands out due to its
aromatic, resinous scent and the pink blossoms.
Cystus is
one of the plants in Europe which has a high polyphenol content. These
tannin combinations are similar in character to vitamines (vitamine P).
In lower concentrations they are also found in other foodstuff, such as
onion peel, red wine and several stone fruits. Polyphenols act
antioxidant in the human organism which is even stronger than that of
vitamine E, CC, red wine or green tea. The healthy effect of this food
is also remarked by the German society for nutrition (DGE). It cares
for the metabolism, prevents the cells from uncontrolled reproduction,
stabilises heart and the cardiovascular system and supports the
biological activity of vitamine C, accoding to the (DGE). Additionally
it is known today that polyphenols prevent skin ageing.
