Kenya
Kenya is leading among the young tea countries in
Africa; tea from Kenya is of rising importance for England, which
represents the largest market for tea. As the plantations were
developed within the last few centuries, the newest methods could be
integrated. This comprises scientifically selected plant material and
the most modern technical facilities. Additionally, tea producers in
Kenya have the advantage that their plantations lie very close to the
Equator on a high plateau. Due to this, a continually equal harvest is
possible year-round and the production costs are only half those of
India. Apart from strong mass-market teas for the English and East
Frisian blends, Kenya also supplies aromatic garden varieties.
