Teataster
Each tea wholesaler has one or more tea taster who are responsible for
purchasing the teas and for maintaining their high quality.
Furthermore, also improvements and new tea creations are developed by
the tea taster. In order to assess the tea qualities, the teas are
brewed following a special procedure where the amounts of tea and water
are clearly defined and act as a basis for tea tasting procedures
around the world.
This ensures that a common language is spoken around the world with
respect to assessing teas (read more on this under: Tasting). A tea
taster tastes up to 500 teas a day and requires 7-10 years of
experience until he can reach the tea taster status. An acknowledged
formal training for this job does not exist. A tea taster has to be
developed slowly over a few years of constant training.
